I thought to try these lenses after wanting the Transitions darkeing & a UV-blocking, contemporary Silicone Hydrogel lens that is weekly wear..
After researching lens material, and the videos of people in the sun--and looking like an Akira version of themselves-dark pupil, like Animé character, I had to have a pair!
The lens takes a few seconds to go completely dark when exposed to direct bright Sunlight-think Summer. Lesser-intensity sunlight produces both a slower and less dark transition. They lighten up a bit slower; which at first seems counterintuitive, but the changes in darkness allows for an overall similar level of light the the user views, so s/he does not see intense instances of bright light and the temporary complete absence of seen light when one enters a dimly-lit room directly from a bright sunny-day.
I tested the lenses on both a production environment--in an office, using a computer, and later when I ran errands on a sunny Summer & Fall day, as well as wash the car, run 8K and and bike 30K. No problems with dry-eye while active and the intensity if light levels was neither too bright from Sun, nor too dark from shaded areas.
The material is Senofilcon A and is a contemporary non-ionic lens that is very comfortable and has J&Js lens material that is low-friction and with the thin edge design, meant to help avoid dry eyes.
